ABBEY Notre Dame de La Roche

According to public knowledge, it was built in the late 12th century to house a statue of Mary the Virgin, unexpectedly dug out by a bull.

The retreat fell into decline from the 14th century onwards until it was bought and restored by the Levis-Murepoix family in 1850. In the mid 20th century it was transformed in to a school for gardeners and is now used as a training centre.

ABBEY of the Vaux de Cernay

The 12th century Cistercian Abbey is located in the Valley of Cernay near the brook by the name of Vaux.

The estate was transformed into a private mansion by Baron Rothschild in the 19th century but the Monks’ room and the ruins of the Abbey remain as well as the dovecote and the Saint Thibault fountain, famous for its fertility waters.

The 150-acre park nowadays houses a luxury hotel.
