Fortress of
great importance during the struggles opposing the Lords of
Chevreuse and Montlhéry to kings Philip 1st and Louis 6th,
nicknamed “The Fat” over problems of tolls and taxes. |

Dampierre Chateau |

The estate built according to
the plans of fames architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart dates
back to the 17th century. The park and gardens were designed
by landscaper Le Nôtre . Visitors will enjoy the delicate
wood panelling in the dining room and great hall, Ingres’
wall painting representing the “Golden Age”, the small
reproduction of the statue of Minerva by Simart, and the
statue of sleeping Penelope in the hall. |

It has been the property of the Breteuil
famlily since it was built in 1604.
Surrounded by a 200 – acre park – whose
French gardens were designed by Le Notre – The entirely
restored and lavishly decorated Henry IV style chateau
houses among many works of art the Teschen table also called
the Table of Europe, a small round table incrusted with
semi-precious stones, a present from Empress Marie-Teresa to
Louis Auguste de Breteuil. |

The kitchens
and staff quarters are animated by wax figures achieved by
Grévin Museum. |
